New to Cringe  and the Live Shows calendar - trivia questions! Most of these were posed in recent Live Shows calendars (their associated date following in parenthesis). I don't try to ask extremely obscure questions, rather I stick to more significant connection and/or "historical" type questions - trivia doesn't have to be trivial. At this point no prizes are offered - other than the sense of pride in knowing the correct answers :-)

1. What local defunct band called itself Sleepyhead until it heard the name was taken ... (Mar 25, 1996)
   Answer: Big Red Sun evolved into Sleepyhead which then became Greenhorn.

2. What other band were the bassist, drummer and vocalist for Mary Adam 12 in together? (Mar 29, 1996)
   Answer: The drummer, bassist & vocalist for Mary Adam 12 were also in Wishyfish together. As long as I ain't being too picky, four people got this one right (Wishyfish is one word with no "y" at the end).

3. What is the origin and the home of the origin of the band name "Rocket from the Crypt?" (Apr 1, 1996)
   Answer: Yep, aside from being a no show at the Newport Tuesday, Rocket from the Crypt stole their name from Cleveland's protopunk (to use a term a regular Cringe contributer fancies) Rocket from the Tombs. A couple of ya even sent me a bit of a history on the Tombs.

4. Where did Watershed derive its recent Epic release title from; and what other local release used the same title as a subtitle? (Apr 5, 1996)
   Answer: Watershed's recent Epic release was called "Three Chords and a Cloud of Dust," which was also the subtitle of local label Datapanik's Greatest Hits Vol. II. The phrase itself is a play on a Woody Hayes saying: "Three yards and a cloud of dust," though Colin (Watershed) says it may be in a Georgia Satelites tune too.

5. Who can name two past members of Howlin' Maggie? What other band(s) were/are those past members in? (Apr 8, 1996)
   Answer: A couple responders knew Jovan Karcic (Gaunt, Haynes Boys, Waybald, etc.) was the drummer for Howlin' Maggie early on. Only one response correctly named guitarist/trumpeter Randy Sanders (Enivob Nez, Nova Ovum, etc.) as another early member. I believe Derek DiCenzo was the drummer fer a bit too, though I don't think he played out with 'em. I'm told Chuck from Earwig also sat in on drums for Maggie's first ever live tune 'cause Jovan was late.

6. What's the relationship between the two guitarists/vocalists of O-Matic; and what bands did they used to play in? (Apr 12, 1996)
   Answer: Michelle & Scott Bodine of O-Matic are siblings (uh, that's fancy fer brother & sister). Scott was in the Method. Michelle was in Brainiac. Surprisingly, only two people got this one.

7. Who F*�%s it up? (Apr 15, 1996)
   Answer: "Who F*�%s it up?" "The Heresy! The Heresy" Yep, that's from a Poets of Heresy audience participation chant/tune.

8. What semi-national act did John Schwab used to be in? (Apr 19, 1996)
   Answer: John Schwab was in semi-national act McGuffey Lane. Two people got it, depending on if I count spelling (which I don't 'cause I'm having a bit of trouble with that myself).

9. What was Trigga Happy (the local band) known as before the reorganized? (Apr 22, 1996)
   Answer: A couple of ya not only pointed out that Triggahappy is one word (if ya look at the last post I did admit to having some speeling troubles), but also knew it used to be Triggerfish.

10. This one's a bit obscure... What band was Pretty Mighty Mighty's guitarist in before PMM; and who was in that band with him? (Hint: I'm looking fer an "electronic" trio.) (Apr 26, 1996)
    Answer: Jon Chinn, guitarist for Pretty Mighty Mighty, was in the industrial dance trio Theory Collapse with his brother Matt Chinn and Mike Levy. No one got this one correct - told ya it was obscure.

11. From what did Hairy Patt derive its name? (Apr 29, 1996)
    Answer: Well, not a single person knew where Hairy Patt got its name - and it's not some disgusting perverted thing. The drummer's name is Joe HAROLD PATT - mispell a nickname and ya got the band name.

12. Anyone remember the Electric Hurling Stones? What band did they eventually evolve into? (May 3, 1996)
    Answer: I got one wrong online answer then two right online answers ... and another right offline answer. The Electric Hurling Stones became Stonebyrd. My memory has faded a bit, but I believe one Stone member was in Strawberry Alarm Clock!

13. What members of Frog a mungus and Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments played in Swine Barn together. (Hint: they've worked at Moo together, too.) (May 6, 1996)
    Answer: Joe Pospisil (frog a mungus' guitarist) and Ted Hattemer (TJ Slave Apts' drummer) were both in Swine Barn. A couple Swines eventually became Stupid Fuckin' Hippie - but even that's history now.

14. What mainstay band were two members of Vinyl in together before? One of those members was also in a band on a Q-FM-96 Hometown album years ago. What was the name of that band? (Hint: If ya know the 1st part, you'll feel stupid fer not guessing the 2nd part.) (May 10, 1996)
    Answer: Before Vinyl, Jeff Ciampa and Kevin Oliver were in Zero One together. Years ago, Ciampa had a cut on a Q-FM-96 Hometown Album as Ciampa.

15. What band was Jake of Moviola in just before Moviola; and what nickname did he use? (May 13, 1996)
    Answer: Jake was in a band called Hangnail - on bass if the photographic part of my memory servers me. After that, he joined a little known, short lived band called Hedgehog on vocals. Hedgehog eventually became the Econothugs and Jake "Label" eventually left to do Moviola.
