This is the place to come for Cringe.com/pilation press releases, photos, band one sheets, contact information and/or other material common to standard press kits. We hope this "online press kit" approach will prove useful to not only the press, but also the bands, labels and fans.

This is a Cringe.com/pilation volume 3 support show featuring four artists from the CD. Funds raised at this and other support shows go toward paying for this and future Cringe.com/pilation volumes.
Sure, 5:01 Jazz Bar is known for jazz. But the venue also has a regular series of drums-n-bass, acid jazz, DJ and electronica oriented events on Monday nights. In the spirit of musical diversity, Cringe.com put together a line-up that combines and crosses jazz and electronica with Cringe.com's own rock leanings.
Archetype is a mixture of drums-n-bass, ambient and electronica. This may be his last show in Columbus for some time as Archetype (a.k.a. Charles Noel) has plans to move at the end of July.
DJ Riko plays a mix veering through dance/electronic, hip-hop, funk, indie rock, oddball thrift-store finds and sample-based creations, including mashup tracks where vocals from one song are melded to music from others.
Mortimur is an instrumental guitar, bass, and drums trio along the lines of some of Bill Frisell's solo work with some hints of jazz, surf and Americana.
Silencio, selected as one of the bands to look out for this year by Columbus Alive, plays what might be best described as free jazz in a rock setting.
The Cringe.com/pilation CD series was started in 2001 to help expose bands and fans to each other. While the first two volumes focused on the music in which we were most immersed, our aspirations were always to spread our stylistic wings once the series' framework was established. With that in mind, there was an open call for submissions to Volume 3.0. The selected submissions gathered on volume 3.0 are still from our own backyard and have at least one toe in some form of modern popular music, but also venture into some new and experimental territories. Don't take our word for it, though. Listen!
Cringe.com is an online zine covering the OSU/Short North area music scene. The zine started in 1995 as a poll of Live Shows subscribers. Live Shows was established in 1990 as an online calendar of OSU/Short North area music and dance events. Both are available on the World-Wide Web at http://www.cringe.com/
Other support shows will be held throughout the summer. We'll let you know as those are solidified.
As always, feel free to contact us anyway ya can ...

CRINGE.COM COMPILATION V3.0 PICKS ANNOUNCED
Whew! It's been a long difficult task ... 61 bands and 111 songs! Chances are some of our picks would change an hour from now, but we gotta get on with things, so I'm calling this final (in alphabetical order):
There were 5 of us involved in the selection process with me making the final close decisions. One of our goals this time around was to include more variety by way of some experimental/electronica/jazz/hip hop/avant influenced material. I think we've successfully done that.
If you were picked, what's next?
We'll be back in touch soon with more info and specifics, but I wanted to get the word to you.

ABOUT THE COMPILATION SERIES
Each compilation in this series aims to expose local and regional bands and fans to each other.
Cringe.com released the first volume of its Cringe.com/pilation series on September 29, 2001. Volume 2.0 was released May 17, 2002. Both CDs are currently available at http://store.cringe.com/, Used Kid's Records, Magnolia Thunderpussy and through the bands on each CD.
We here at Cringe.com lovingly, but with tongue firmly in cheek, refer to "cringe" as the ever elusive Columbus sound (Seattle already took "grunge"), going so far as to adopt "The Columbus Sound" as a slogan on volume 1 and the entire site. Any interpretation of this slogan should be taken with a grain of salt and a couple aspirin.
Look for further information, links and online press kits at http://www.cringe.com/pilation/ as future shows approach and details are ironed out.
